Our primary mission
with
fishin4acure
(F4AC) is to find a cure for childhood cancer.
fishin4acure
also supports several patient related programs that provide
pediatric cancer patients and their families opportunities to
participate in outdoor activities such as fishing and boating.
fishin4acure
was started by 4 members of the Alabama B.A.S.S. Federation Nation.
Through the membership of the Alabama B.A.S.S. Federation Nation,
corporate sponsorship and individual supporters,
fishin4acure
raises money specifically for pediatric cancer research at the UAB
Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Children’s Hospital
of Alabama in Birmingham.
The UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Children’s
Hospital is the state’s only comprehensive pediatric center,
treating 95 percent of all pediatric cancer patients diagnosed in
Alabama. The division is the single largest provider of specialized
pediatric services in Alabama for:
- Cancer/Leukemia
- Brain and Spinal Cord Tumors
- Sickle Cell Diseases
In 2006, the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology
provided care to:
- 150 children newly diagnosed with cancer
- 1,000 survivors of childhood cancer and their families
- 940 patients with sickle cell disease
- 1,268 children and adults with hemophilia and other bleeding
disorders
- 60 patients newly diagnosed with a brain tumor
- 30 children who have had or are going to have bone marrow
transplants.
